Congress leader and former Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has launched a scathing attack on the Central Government over its handling of the recent terror attack in Kashmir and the ongoing counter-terror operation codenamed 'Operation Sindoor'. Baghel questioned the narrative of success being peddled around the operation and demanded a special session of Parliament to address the growing public outcry.
“If that is the case, then why not call a special session? Questions will be asked, answers will be given, and the entire nation and the world will hear it,” Baghel said, demanding transparency on the operation’s outcomes.
Referring to the tragic deaths of 26 individuals in the recent terror strike, Baghel questioned the government’s definition of success. “If 26 lives were lost, have those four or five terrorists been caught? If not, how can you call Operation Sindoor a success?” he asked.
He further criticised the government’s earlier assurances of normalcy in Kashmir, pointing out that families had travelled together to the region based on these claims. “People went to Kashmir based on your assurances that everything was normal. Families went together, and now they have returned separated from their loved ones,” Baghel said, highlighting the emotional toll on victims' families.
The Congress leader’s comments come amidst rising opposition demands for accountability following the Pahalgam terror attack. Other leaders, including KC Venugopal and RJD’s Manoj Jha, have already demanded a special Parliament session to debate the Centre's handling of Kashmir, especially in light of US President Donald Trump’s controversial mediation remarks.
