Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has officially allocated portfolios to his ministers, solidifying the first elected government in the union territory since its special status was revoked in 2019. Omar Abdullah, who took the oath of office on Wednesday, is leading the government for his second term as chief minister. Five ministers, including Sakina Masood (Itoo), Javed Ahmad Dar, Javed Ahmed Rana, Surinder Choudhary, and Satish Sharma, were also sworn in alongside Abdullah.
The portfolio allocations reflect a balanced distribution of key ministries among the ministers, setting the tone for the government’s agenda moving forward.

- Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary: Public Works (R&B), Industries & Commerce, Mining, Labour & Employment, and Skill Development.
- Sakina Masood (Itoo): Health & Medical Education, School Education, Higher Education, and Social Welfare. Itoo, a prominent figure in the region, will oversee critical sectors involving health and education.
- Javed Ahmed Rana: Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology & Environment, and Tribal Affairs. Rana’s portfolio will have him focusing on water resources, environmental conservation, and the welfare of tribal communities.
- Javed Ahmad Dar: Agriculture Production, Rural Development & Panchayati Raj, Cooperative, and Election. Dar will manage agricultural growth, rural development, and oversee the cooperative sector.
- Satish Sharma: Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Transport, Science & Technology, Information Technology, Youth Services & Sports, and ARI & Trainings. Sharma's extensive portfolio includes overseeing transport infrastructure, technology, and sports development in the region.
Abdullah's Second Term and Legacy
Omar Abdullah, who is from the influential Abdullah family, steps into the role of chief minister for a second time. His first term was from 2009 to 2014, when Jammu and Kashmir was still a full-fledged state. Abdullah’s leadership marks the continuation of his family’s political legacy, with both his grandfather, Sheikh Abdullah, and father, Farooq Abdullah, having previously served as chief ministers.
