The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday stepped up its attack on the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, alleging a complete collapse of law and order and expressing serious concern over the safety of women in the state. BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi said recent incidents of violence have shaken public confidence and exposed what he described as the failure of governance under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

Referring to the reported assault on women in Bhangnamari village of South 24 Parganas district, Trivedi said the incident has sparked widespread anger among residents. He argued that such cases are not isolated but part of a disturbing pattern of violence that has emerged across the state in recent years.

The BJP leader linked the latest episode to earlier controversies, including the Sandeshkhali case and incidents reported from Durgapur Medical College, claiming that influential local figures allegedly enjoy political protection. According to Trivedi, certain elements have turned into tools of intimidation, allegedly operating with impunity to serve political interests.

He alleged that ordinary citizens, especially women, are paying the price for what he termed administrative paralysis and selective enforcement of the law. Trivedi claimed that fear and coercion have become common in several regions, eroding trust in the state’s policing and justice mechanisms.

While criticising the state government sharply, the BJP MP also remarked that recent aggressive statements by the West Bengal Chief Minister against the Centre reflect political pressure rather than strength. He suggested that such remarks stem from compulsion amid mounting criticism and public discontent.
