The 2024 Lok Sabha elections witnessed a significant representation of Muslim candidates, with 15 emerging victorious across various constituencies. This number, however, marked a decline compared to the 2019 elections, where 115 Muslim candidates had contested.

Among the notable Muslim winners is former Indian cricketer Yusuf Pathan, who contested as a first-time candidate and defeated veteran Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury in the Baharampur constituency of West Bengal by a massive margin of 85,022 votes.

In Uttar Pradesh, the Samajwadi Party secured two crucial victories, with Mohibbullah winning the Rampur seat by securing 4,81,503 votes, and Zia Ur Rehman emerging triumphant in Sambhal with a margin of 1.2 lakh votes. Additionally, Afzal Ansari of the Samajwadi Party won the Ghazipur seat.

The Congress party also witnessed success with Muslim candidates, as Imran Masood won the Saharanpur seat by a substantial margin of 64,542 votes. Meanwhile, 29-year-old Iqra Choudhary of the Samajwadi Party defeated BJP's Pradeep Kumar in Kairana by 69,116 votes.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief, Asaduddin Owaisi, retained his stronghold in Hyderabad, defeating BJP's Madhavi Latha Kompella by a remarkable 3,38,087 votes.

In the Union Territory of Ladakh, Independent candidate Mohammad Haneefa secured victory with a margin of 27,862 votes, while another Independent, Abdul Rashid Sheikh, won the Baramulla seat in Jammu and Kashmir, bagging an impressive 4.7 lakh votes.

Jammu and Kashmir also witnessed victories for the National Conference, with Mian Altaf Ahmad winning the Anantnag-Rajouri seat by 2,81,794 votes against former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti. Additionally, the party's candidate, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, secured 3,56,866 votes in the Srinagar constituency.

While the number of Muslim candidates contesting the 2024 Lok Sabha polls stood at 78, a significant decrease from the 115 candidates in 2019, the successful 15 candidates represent a diverse range of parties and regions, reflecting the nation's vibrant democratic fabric.
