Amid growing unrest in the Imphal Valley following the arrest of five members of the Meitei outfit Arambai Tenggol, a cross-party delegation of over 25 legislators, including both BJP and Congress MLAs, met Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on Sunday. The delegation was accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba and urged the Governor to take immediate steps to address the deteriorating law and order situation.
The lawmakers, during their meeting at the Raj Bhavan, expressed deep concern over the ongoing protests and sporadic violence erupting across the state since Saturday. In response, the Governor assured them that efforts were already underway to restore peace. “All necessary steps are being taken to address the concerns and to restore normalcy,” the Governor stated.
In a parallel move, Governor Bhalla convened a high-level review meeting with senior security officials to assess the ground situation and coordinate measures to curb the unrest. Sources indicated that the security review focused on sensitive pockets where arson and clashes had been reported.
