The BJP has mounted a sharp counterattack against Congress leader Rahul Gandhi following his controversial remarks in Germany alleging large-scale voter fraud during the Haryana Assembly elections. The ruling party has challenged Gandhi to publicly disclose details backing his claims, warning that unsubstantiated allegations damage India’s democratic institutions.
Reacting strongly, BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla said Rahul Gandhi made “serious and irresponsible accusations” without offering any proof. He pointed out that Gandhi did not claim duplicate voter names, but went a step further by alleging that a single woman had voted as many as 200 times.
“Rahul Gandhi said one woman voted 200 times. Not that her name appeared 200 times — but that she actually voted 200 times. This is a grave charge,” Poonawalla said, demanding that Gandhi reveal the woman’s identity, polling booth details, and evidence of how such voting allegedly took place.
The BJP leader also questioned another claim made by Gandhi about a woman named Shakun Rani allegedly voting twice. “Who is Shakun Rani? Where did this happen? Which booth? Which constituency? Rahul Gandhi must answer these questions,” Poonawalla said, accusing the Congress MP of making sensational claims to undermine faith in the Election Commission.
