The fourth day of the Bihar Assembly’s winter session turned heated as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar delivered a sharp, unapologetic speech defending the NDA government’s performance and taking pointed digs at the opposition RJD.
During the discussion on the Governor’s address, Nitish Kumar highlighted what he called the NDA’s “transformative governance”, repeatedly reminding the opposition of its past “failures” and asserting that the coalition is firmly in control.
Turning directly toward the opposition benches, the Chief Minister said,
“We pushed you aside twice and still achieved massive developmental work. At that time, you quietly accepted everything. When you made mistakes, we stepped away — but now we will never leave. This is our rightful place.”
Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav was notably absent from the House during Nitish’s remarks, a point NDA leaders later cited as proof of “weak opposition accountability”.
Nitish further sharpened his attack, questioning the RJD’s commitment to governance:
“Why aren't you working? Those who want progress are working. When work is done for the people, everyone benefits.”
He reiterated the NDA’s long-standing criticism that previous RJD administrations had “pushed Bihar into darkness”, arguing that it took years of NDA rule to bring the state back on track.
Major Governance Claims Highlighted by Nitish
The Chief Minister spotlighted achievements in healthcare:
-
Primary Health Centres (PHCs), once almost non-functional, now handle an average of over 11,600 patients per month, he said.
-
The number of medical colleges in the state has doubled from 6 to 12, with construction underway in the remaining 27 districts.
-
Nitish said the ongoing projects are progressing at “record pace” and will be completed “very soon”.
