The Narendra Modi-led government is set to push through a series of significant legislative reforms in the Monsoon Session of Parliament, scheduled to begin on July 21 and run until August 19, following a recent extension. Among the eight major bills lined up for introduction and passage in the Lok Sabha are proposals to amend laws related to taxation, education, heritage preservation, sports governance, and doping control.
As per the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the central government will introduce the following bills during this session:
– The Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025
– The Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2025
– The Indian Institutes of Management (Amendment) Bill, 2025
– The Taxation Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2025
– The Geoheritage Sites and Geo-relics (Preservation and Maintenance) Bill, 2025
– The Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill, 2025
– The National Sports Governance Bill, 2025
– The National Anti-Doping (Amendment) Bill, 2025
In addition to the new introductions, several pending bills are expected to be taken up for final passage in the Lok Sabha. These include:
– The Readjustment of Representation of Scheduled Tribes in Assembly Constituencies of the State of Goa Bill, 2024
– The Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024
– The Indian Ports Bill, 2025
– The Income Tax Bill, 2025
The upcoming session is significant as it follows a break of over three months since the conclusion of the Budget Session in April. Both houses—Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha—will reconvene at 11 a.m. on July 21. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju confirmed that the session will now conclude on August 19 instead of August 12, giving Parliament an extended timeline to deliberate and act on the legislative agenda.
