In the aftermath of one of India’s deadliest aviation tragedies, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached Ahmedabad on Friday morning to personally assess the situation following the crash of Air India Flight AI-171.

Upon arrival, PM Modi held a high-level review meeting at the Ahmedabad International Airport. Senior officials briefed the Prime Minister on the crash investigation, rescue operations, and the current status of relief efforts. Visuals from the meeting showed PM Modi in serious discussions, surrounded by top state and central authorities.

Before the review, PM Modi visited the crash site in the Meghaninagar area, where the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 people, had plummeted shortly after takeoff en route to London. The charred remains of the aircraft and the damage to surrounding structures presented a grim picture of the devastation.

In a post shared on X, PM Modi expressed his sorrow: “Visited the crash site in Ahmedabad today. The scene of devastation is saddening. Met officials and teams working tirelessly in the aftermath. Our thoughts remain with those who lost their loved ones in this unimaginable tragedy.”

Following the site visit, the Prime Minister also stopped by Ahmedabad Civil Hospital, where over two dozen injured passengers are being treated. His interaction with the survivors and medical staff aimed to ensure that all possible support is being provided to those affected.

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu and Gujarat State Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi were also present during the PM’s visit. Both ministers have been actively involved in coordinating emergency response measures.

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), along with international aviation experts, has already begun a full-scale probe into the incident. Officials confirmed that both the cockpit voice recorder and flight data recorder have been recovered.
