Jan Suraaj founder and political strategist Prashant Kishor on Wednesday clarified that he will not contest the upcoming Bihar Assembly elections in November, but will continue to work for the party’s growth and organisational development. The statement comes amid speculation that Kishor might contest from Raghopur, a constituency associated with former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav.

Speaking to reporters, Kishor said: “No, I won't contest. The party has decided. I will continue to do the work I have been doing in the party. I will continue with the organisational work for the larger interest of the party.”

Earlier, on October 11, Kishor launched a campaign in Raghopur, Tejashwi Yadav’s stronghold, drawing parallels with the high-profile defeat of Rahul Gandhi in Amethi. The 47-year-old leader was warmly welcomed by supporters in Vaishali district, around 50 km from Patna, with garlands and drum beats marking his arrival.

During his interactions with villagers, Kishor addressed long-standing issues, including poor infrastructure, inadequate schools, and lack of basic amenities. He also urged residents, particularly women, to look beyond caste loyalties when voting.

“Your local MLA is such a big man. He has been deputy chief minister twice. Have you ever gone to him with your problems?” Kishor asked, highlighting that many constituents had never met 35-year-old Tejashwi Yadav, despite his political stature.
