Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik on Wednesday announced stringent action against officials and security personnel following the shocking assault of a woman inside a Shivshahi ST bus at Swargate bus station in Thane.
Addressing the Maharashtra Assembly, Sarnaik revealed that four officials had been suspended and 22 security guards transferred after a government-ordered inquiry found lapses in passenger safety.
The incident, which occurred a few days ago, came to light when the victim filed a complaint at the Swargate police station. Taking serious note, the state transport corporation's vice chairman and managing director were directed to conduct a thorough probe.
Following the inquiry, senior depot manager Jayesh Patil, junior depot manager Pallavi Patil, assistant traffic inspector Sunil Yele, and assistant traffic superintendent Mohini Dhage were suspended for negligence. Meanwhile, all 22 security guards stationed at Swargate have been reassigned.
Minister Sarnaik emphasized that ensuring the safety of female passengers is a top priority. "Any future lapses will lead to strict action against responsible officers and staff," he warned.
