In a major development, the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has registered a case against senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders and former Delhi ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain in connection with an alleged scam worth ₹2,000 crore involving the construction of 12,748 classrooms in Delhi government schools.
The case, according to the ACB, pertains to massive irregularities and cost escalations during the AAP government’s tenure. Investigations revealed that not a single classroom project was completed within the stipulated time frame, with significant deviations from the original work plan and abnormal cost increases.
“The consultant and architect were appointed without following due procedures, and these appointments were allegedly used to facilitate unjustified cost escalations,” the ACB stated. The scam was detected after auditing and reviewing files from the Public Works Department (PWD) and related agencies.
The ACB confirmed that the case was registered after obtaining the required sanction under Section 17-A of the Prevention of Corruption Act from the competent authority. This provision mandates prior government approval before investigating public servants for actions taken in their official capacity.
Both Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain, who have previously been arrested in separate corruption cases, are now facing fresh allegations related to this large-scale infrastructure project intended for improving school facilities in the national capital.
