Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Wednesday made a strong appeal for national unity following the deadly terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, urging all political parties to back the Narendra Modi government in its response.

Taking to social media platform X, the former Uttar Pradesh chief minister wrote, “All parties should unite and support the government in every step taken by it regarding the Pahalgam terror attack. Instead of doing dirty politics under its cover by putting up posters and making statements etc., because this is creating confusion among the people, which is not good for the country.”

In a pointed warning to rivals, particularly the Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress, Mayawati added, “Also, in this case, the architect of the Indian Constitution, the most revered Baba Saheb Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, should not be insulted at all. Especially SP and Congress should take special care of this, otherwise BSP can take to the streets against them.”

Her remarks come in the wake of the Congress party reportedly instructing its leaders to avoid making controversial statements regarding the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives—most of them tourists. The grand old party has also retracted a controversial X post that labeled Prime Minister Narendra Modi as “Gayab” (missing), following sharp criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The BJP accused the Congress of attempting to politicize a national tragedy, further alleging that the post used imagery resembling the extremist slogan "sar tan se juda"—a claim Congress has not directly responded to but which prompted the deletion of the visual content.
