A wave of emotion swept outside Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court on Friday as former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal walked free after being discharged in the high-profile excise policy case. Moments after the verdict, Kejriwal was seen tightly embracing his wife Sunita Kejriwal and their children in an emotional reunion that quickly became the highlight of the day.
Visuals from the court premises showed his daughter presenting him with flowers, celebrating what the family described as a victory of truth. Supporters gathered nearby cheered as Kejriwal, visibly moved, acknowledged them with folded hands before turning again to hug his family members.
The Special Court cleared all 23 individuals named in the case, including former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. The case had been investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over alleged irregularities in the now-withdrawn Delhi Excise Policy 2021–22.
Delivering the order, Special Judge Jitender Singh ruled that the prosecution had failed to present sufficient material to establish criminal intent or a broader conspiracy. The court observed that the allegations did not meet the legal standard required to frame charges and concluded that there was no prima facie case against any of the accused.
Reacting shortly after the decision, Sunita Kejriwal expressed gratitude and faith. Speaking to reporters, she said that no power is greater than divine justice and thanked the judiciary for its ruling. She added that her husband has always upheld honesty in public life and remains committed to the nation’s progress.
The discharge marks a significant turning point in a case that had dominated political discourse for over two years. With the trial court closing the matter at this stage, the emotional family scenes outside the courtroom symbolised not just legal relief but also a deeply personal moment for the Kejriwal household.
