Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Wednesday unveiled a significant election promise, pledging to regularize the services of all ‘Jeevika CM Didis’ in Bihar and provide them with permanent government jobs carrying a monthly salary of ₹30,000 if the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) forms the next government in the state.

Addressing a press conference in Patna, Yadav said that the move aims to recognize the relentless contribution of Jeevika Didis — women working as community mobilisers under the Bihar Rural Livelihoods Project (JEEViKA) — who have played a crucial role in empowering rural families through self-help groups across the state.

“All of you are aware that injustice was done to the Jeevika Didis under this government. We have decided that once our government is formed, all Jeevika CM Didis will be made permanent employees and will receive ₹30,000 per month. This is not an ordinary announcement — this has been their long-standing demand,” Yadav said.

Yadav asserted that his party’s commitment to the Jeevika workers is part of a broader vision to strengthen women’s economic independence in rural Bihar. He emphasized that the RJD-led government would ensure social dignity and job security for lakhs of women associated with the Jeevika network.

The announcement comes amid an increasingly competitive election season, with major political parties rolling out populist welfare promises to woo women voters — a decisive demographic in Bihar’s electorate.

The Jeevika project, launched in 2006 with World Bank assistance, aims to reduce rural poverty through community-based livelihood initiatives. Over the years, it has grown into a network of over 1.2 crore women, forming one of the largest self-help movements in India. However, many community mobilisers, often called “CM Didis,” have long complained of low honorariums and lack of job security.
