Tejashwi Yadav Vows To Scrap Waqf (Amendment) Act If ‘India’ Alliance Wins In Bihar

Mahagathbandhan’s Chief Ministerial candidate and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav on Sunday launched a strong attack on the ruling NDA government over the Waqf (Amendment) Act, promising to repeal it if the ‘India’ alliance comes to power in Bihar.

Addressing a large public rally in Katihar, a Muslim-majority district, Yadav said the controversial Act, passed by Parliament in April 2025, would be “thrown into the dustbin” once his alliance forms the government.

While the Centre claims the amended Waqf law enhances transparency and empowers backward Muslims and women, the opposition argues that it undermines the rights and autonomy of the Muslim community.

Tejashwi Yadav accused the ruling dispensation of promoting communal politics and eroding social harmony. He alleged that his father and RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav “never compromised with communal forces,” unlike Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, whom he accused of repeatedly siding with such forces for political survival.

Taking aim at the BJP, Yadav labelled it the “Bharat Jalao Party,” asserting that communal polarization would worsen if the saffron party retained power.

The RJD leader also targeted the NDA government over corruption, unemployment, and deteriorating law and order, claiming that public frustration with the two-decade-long rule was growing rapidly.

Accusing the state administration of neglecting the Seemanchal region, Yadav announced that a Seemanchal Development Authority would be set up to address regional disparities if the Mahagathbandhan wins. He further alleged that the NDA government was “copying” his alliance’s welfare promises and development agenda.
