A fresh confrontation erupted between the Trinamool Congress and the Election Commission after TMC MP Derek O’Brien accused the poll body of evading critical questions raised by the party during their meeting on Friday.
Speaking to the media, O’Brien said the TMC delegation, led by party chief Mamata Banerjee and National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, had gone to the Election Commission with five specific questions related to the ongoing voter-list revision and the SIR exercise. However, he claimed that the Commission failed to respond meaningfully.
“At the end of the meeting, I told them on record that they spoke for 50 or 55 minutes, but did not answer even one of our five questions,” O’Brien said.
The TMC leader challenged the Election Commission to publicly release the full transcript of the meeting, suggesting transparency would reveal the Commission’s evasive stance.
“Why don’t you release the transcript of yesterday’s meeting? You are accusing an entire delegation of elected MPs of the All India Trinamool Congress,” he said.
According to O’Brien, the delegation had asked for clarity on issues including alleged irregularities in the SIR process, deaths of officials during the exercise, and concerns raised by multiple states. He accused the Commission of attempting to shift blame instead of addressing the party’s pointed questions.
