West Bengal Leader of the Opposition and senior BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari has made scathing allegations against the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the wake of the recent Murshidabad violence. He claimed that the incident was orchestrated with the intention of polarising the Muslim vote and pushing back the Muslim electorate from Congress towards the TMC.
Speaking to reporters, Adhikari said, "This was done to polarise the Muslim vote... This was done to pull back the Muslim votes from Congress using the name of Waqf... This was done to threaten Hindus." He further alleged that the ruling party in West Bengal is actively encouraging the migration of Hindus from certain districts.
"They (TMC) are forcing Hindus to migrate to make Malda, Murshidabad a Hindu-free zone, like what's happening in Bangladesh," Adhikari asserted, drawing a controversial parallel between the situation in parts of Bengal and neighbouring Bangladesh.
He called upon national institutions and leaders to intervene, stating, "To give protection to Hindus in West Bengal, our President, Prime Minister, and Supreme Court should take strict action, otherwise the safety of Hindus will become bleak wherever they are in the minority."
Adhikari cited a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report to support his claim that the Hindu population in Murshidabad is living under fear and has demanded the presence of security forces. "It is crystal clear in the (SIT) report that the Hindus are demanding the permanent deployment of BSF there," he said.
