In a shocking development in the murder case of former MLA Baba Siddiqui, his son Zeeshan Siddiqui has claimed that the Bandra slum redevelopment project may have played a crucial role in the crime. In his statement to the police, Zeeshan mentioned the involvement of Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) MLA Adv. Anil Parab and BJP leader Mohit Kamboj in the controversy surrounding the project.
Allegations by Zeeshan Siddiqui
Zeeshan Siddiqui pointed to the Sant Dnyaneshwar Nagar slum redevelopment project as the root cause of his father’s conflicts with developers. He alleged that Baba Siddiqui was actively fighting for the rights of slum dwellers, which put him at odds with powerful real estate developers. This, in turn, led to police pressure through fabricated cases, he claimed.
Zeeshan further revealed that on October 12, 2024, the day of the murder, his father had noted Mohit Kamboj’s name in his personal diary. Additionally, he stated that Baba Siddiqui and Kamboj had exchanged messages on WhatsApp between 5:30 and 6:00 PM, just hours before the killing.
According to Zeeshan, Mundra Builders, who were behind the redevelopment project in Bandra East, had sought to meet Baba Siddiqui. He also claimed that slum dwellers had provided video evidence showing builders using offensive language against his father, escalating tensions around the project.
Investigation and Arrests
The Mumbai Police had earlier stated that Baba Siddiqui was killed at the behest of Anmol Bishnoi’s gang. However, Zeeshan’s statement did not include any mention of Bishnoi or his associates, raising doubts about the alleged motive.
So far, 26 individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. Zeeshan has called for a thorough investigation into the redevelopment project and the role of real estate developers. He urged the authorities to explore all possible angles to uncover the truth behind the murder.
High-Stakes Political Allegations
The mention of prominent leaders like Shiv Sena (Thackeray faction) MLA Adv. Anil Parab and BJP leader Mohit Kamboj has added a political dimension to the case. The allegations have sparked widespread speculation about the potential links between politics, real estate, and the murder of the veteran politician.
