'War Isn’t An Option For Nuclear Nations': Mehbooba Mufti Slams Centre’s Delayed Diplomatic Outreach

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief and former Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has hit out at the Narendra Modi-led Central government for its delayed diplomatic engagement amid rising global tensions, asserting that "war is not an option when you are a nuclear power."

Reacting to the Centre’s ongoing global campaign—sending all-party delegations to various countries to present India’s anti-terror position—Mufti said the move was long overdue. “What the government of India is doing today—sending delegations to different countries; it should have been done earlier. War is not an option when you are a nuclear power,” she stated.

She further criticized the government's approach to the ongoing geopolitical situation, suggesting that New Delhi had mishandled a conflict that could have been resolved through political and diplomatic means.

“The government needs to do many things, as it is not our war. It's between two countries—the thing that could have been sorted out by political intervention and diplomacy—where a knife was needed, you put out the sword,” Mufti remarked, emphasizing that measured diplomacy should have taken precedence over military posturing.
