Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is set to deliver festive cheer to millions of households in Uttar Pradesh, announcing two free LPG refills for beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PM-Ujjwala). The initiative, to be officially launched from Lok Bhavan on Wednesday, will benefit 1.86 crore women, bringing financial and household relief ahead of Diwali.
Calling it a “festival of empowerment for mothers and sisters of Uttar Pradesh,” the CM said the move reflects the state’s dedication to clean energy access, women’s welfare, and economic stability for low-income families.
Under the plan, each eligible household will receive two free refills per year, distributed in two phases — October to December 2025 and January to March 2026. The Uttar Pradesh government has earmarked ₹1,500 crore for the programme. In the first phase, 1.23 crore Aadhaar-verified beneficiaries will receive the benefit, with ₹346.34 crore already transferred to Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum to ensure timely distribution.
Beneficiaries will initially purchase a 14.2 kg cylinder at the market rate, after which the subsidy amount will be directly credited to their Aadhaar-linked bank accounts within three to four days. Those using 5 kg cylinders or holding only a single LPG connection will also be covered under the scheme.
To ensure transparency and wide coverage, the government has launched an Aadhaar verification drive, supported by SMS alerts, mobile authentication apps, and awareness campaigns across villages and towns. Additional laptops have been installed at gas distributor outlets to streamline verification.
Officials have set up state and district-level monitoring committees to supervise the rollout, while the Weights and Measures Department will conduct regular inspections to confirm that cylinders are filled to the correct 14.2 kg capacity.
