The tragedy occurred when passengers of the Pushpak Express, alarmed by a false fire alert, jumped off the train and were struck by the passing Karnataka Express on an adjacent track.

The false fire alarm triggered panic among passengers, causing them to exit the train onto the tracks. Tragically, they were unaware of the oncoming Karnataka Express. Railway officials and emergency personnel quickly arrived at the scene to manage rescue operations and aid the injured. Official Statements and Rescue Operations
Praveen Gedam, Divisional Commissioner of Nashik, stated, “Passengers of the Pushpak Express were on the track when they were hit by the passing Karnataka Express. We are coordinating with the DRM and railway officials. Eight ambulances have reached the site, and additional rescue vans and railway ambulances are en route.” He further confirmed that at least eight fatalities had been reported, with the toll likely to rise.
Central Railway CPRO Swapnil Kumar Leela confirmed that an Accident Relief Train from Bhusawal Mandal was dispatched to assist in rescue efforts.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed his profound grief over the incident on social media, calling it deeply painful. He extended heartfelt condolences to the victims and assured that all necessary measures are being taken to provide assistance.
