Former Congress leader Shakeel Ahmad has made explosive allegations against Rahul Gandhi, claiming that the Congress leader instructed party officials to target his residences in Bihar. Ahmad, a three-time MLA and two-term MP, said the threats emerged after he publicly criticised Gandhi, labelling him a “darpok” (coward) and questioning his leadership style.
Speaking to the media, Ahmad said, “Rahul Gandhi has directed leaders to attack my houses simply because I raised concerns about his leadership. I have been targeted despite my service to the party and my constituency.”
Ahmad shared a screenshot of a WhatsApp message, allegedly circulated by Congress members, calling for his effigy to be burned in protest against his remarks on Gandhi. He further alleged that party insiders informed him that attacks were being planned on his homes in Patna and Madhubani on January 27.
The controversy stems from Ahmad’s sharp critique of Congress’ declining performance in Bihar, accusing Gandhi of promoting only loyalists while sidelining senior, experienced leaders. “I have always spoken constructively, highlighting mistakes when they happened. Yet, instead of dialogue, I am being threatened,” Ahmad added.
He specifically named Krishna Allavaru, Bihar in-charge of the Congress, claiming that he was allegedly executing these orders under Rahul Gandhi’s direction. Ahmad said, “There could be outsiders sent to intimidate me, but they are following instructions from within the party.”
The allegations triggered a strong response from Congress leaders. Party spokesperson Manickam Tagore called Ahmad a “betrayer” and compared him to Jaichand, the historic figure infamous for betraying Prithviraj Chauhan. Tagore said, “These attacks are not about ideology; they are about media attention and appeasing new masters. Welcome to the 2026 batch of Jaichands.”
Ahmad hit back at Tagore, saying, “Poor Manickam Tagore cannot even understand Hindi, yet he issued a long statement against me. Clearly, Rahul Gandhi directed him.”
