In a fiery address at a public rally in Bahadurgarh, Haryana, on Tuesday, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi took aim at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, highlighting the stark contrast between the lavish spending of Mukesh Ambani’s son’s wedding and the financial struggles faced by farmers. With the state gearing up for assembly elections on October 5, Gandhi’s remarks resonate deeply with a populace grappling with economic challenges.
“Have you seen the Ambani wedding? Ambani spent crores on this wedding. Whose money is this? It is your money,” Gandhi stated, asserting that the vast wealth displayed at the event underscores a disparity between India’s elite and the common citizens. “You take bank loans to marry your children, but Narendra Modi ji has created a structure where select individuals can splurge on weddings while farmers drown in debt. If this is not an attack on the Constitution, then what is?” he asked, drawing sharp contrasts between the affluent and the struggling farmers.
The Congress leader lamented the closure of employment opportunities in Haryana under Modi’s regime, citing the skyrocketing prices of essential goods. “PM Modi used to say that the cost of gas cylinders was Rs 400. Today, the rate is Rs 1200. When Congress comes to power, the rate of cylinders will drop to Rs 500, which means we will put Rs 700 back in your pockets,” he promised. He further pledged that, under his leadership, women in Haryana would receive Rs 2000 in their accounts each month.
Rahul Gandhi voiced his commitment to farmers, promising to implement a Minimum Support Price (MSP) system for their crops. “We will provide MSP to farmers. They are trying to sell their grains, but the government is not purchasing. Farmers know they are not receiving the right prices for their paddy, wheat, and sugarcane,” he stated, vowing to rectify these injustices if elected.
In his attack on the ruling BJP and its affiliate, the RSS, Gandhi expressed concern about the impact of their policies on marginalized communities. “When the RSS fills institutions with its own people, denying Dalits and backward classes their rightful places, they are attacking the Constitution. When PM Modi supports Ambani and Adani while destroying employment systems, they are attacking the Constitution,” he asserted.
Gandhi further criticized the Modi administration for its handling of debt waivers, stating, “When PM Modi waives off loans worth Rs 16 lakh crores for billionaires but fails to waive loans for farmers and students, that is an attack on the lives of farmers and an attack on the Constitution.”
As the assembly elections approach, with voting scheduled for October 5, Rahul Gandhi’s statements highlight the Congress party’s focus on economic issues, social justice, and a commitment to protecting constitutional rights, positioning themselves as a voice for the marginalized and economically disadvantaged.
