Rajnath Singh To Visit Bhuj Airbase Amid Heightened Border Vigilance; Sends Stern Message To Pakistan

In a strong message to adversaries across the border, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is slated to visit the strategically vital Bhuj Airbase of the Indian Air Force (IAF) in Gujarat on Friday, according to defence sources. The two-day visit underscores India’s commitment to border security, particularly in the wake of recent tensions and drone incursions from Pakistan.

The Bhuj Airbase, located close to the Pakistan border, has long been a linchpin in India’s western defence infrastructure. It has been previously targeted by Pakistani forces, including a recent failed attempt to hit the base using foreign-made drones. Indian defence systems, however, successfully neutralised these threats, exposing Pakistan’s operational shortcomings.

The upcoming visit follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's recent trip to the Adampur Airbase in Punjab, where he interacted with IAF personnel. Defence Minister Singh will be accompanied by the head of the IAF's Western Air Command during his tour of the Bhuj installation.

This development comes just days after Singh chaired a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi, where the country’s preparedness along the western frontier was discussed. The meeting included the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), along with the chiefs of the Army and Navy, and other top defence officials.

According to the Ministry of Defence, “The meeting focused on the security situation along the western borders, including the Line of Control (LoC) and the international boundary with Pakistan.” The western border, which stretches through Rajasthan and Gujarat, has been on heightened alert following increased cross-border activity.

Tensions escalated after a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, prompting India to destroy terrorist camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). In response, Pakistan launched a wave of drone strikes—sending nearly 300 to 400 drones into Indian airspace. Indian air defence forces effectively intercepted and shot down the drones, delivering a major blow to Pakistan’s efforts.
