Chennai witnessed heartbreaking hit-and-run incident on Monday night, as Madhuri, daughter of YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, allegedly ran over a 24-year-old painter named Surya who was sleeping on a pavement in Besant Nagar as per NDTV reports. The victim tragically succumbed to his injuries despite efforts to rush him to a hospital.
According to reports, Madhuri was driving her BMW accompanied by a friend when the incident occurred. Eyewitnesses recounted that after the car hit Surya, Madhuri fled the scene while her friend engaged in a heated argument with onlookers before leaving herself.
The police investigation, aided by CCTV footage, revealed that the BMW belonged to the BMR Group, registered in Puducherry, associated with Mr. Beeda Masthan Rao, who assumed office as a Rajya Sabha MP in 2022 and has also served as an MLA. Following the incident, Madhuri was arrested but later granted bail at the police station.
The tragic loss of Surya, who had recently married just eight months ago, has sparked outrage among his relatives and local residents of Shastri Nagar, who gathered at the police station demanding justice. The incident has brought attention once again to issues of road safety and accountability in such accidents.
