The city of Mumbai is preparing to pay its last respects to the revered industrialist Ratan Tata, whose mortal remains will be kept for public tribute at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in Nariman Point today. Following his passing on October 9 at Breach Candy Hospital, Tata, who was 86 years old, will be honored with a procession from his Colaba residence to the NCPA and subsequently to Worli later in the day.
In anticipation of this solemn occasion, significant traffic restrictions have been enforced in South Mumbai. Marine Drive road is closed to all vehicular traffic, ensuring that the procession can proceed smoothly. Additionally, the police have established a green corridor extending to Worli to facilitate the respectful transit of Tata’s remains.
Heavy police security is visible in the Nariman Point area, complemented by vehicles from the Rapid Action Force and other security agencies. According to police stationed at the Mantralaya signal, all traffic has been halted on Marine Drive to accommodate the procession. The transfer of Tata’s mortal remains from the NCPA near the Oberoi hotel to Worli is scheduled to occur after 4 PM. However, as of the morning, specific details regarding the duration of the traffic restrictions and the extent of the closed stretches had not yet been communicated.
