Rekha Gupta on Thursday took oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi at a grand swearing-in ceremony held at the iconic Ramlila Maidan. The oath of office was administered by Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena in the presence of top political leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP president JP Nadda.

Gupta, a first-time MLA from Shalimar Bagh, became Delhi’s fourth woman Chief Minister. Along with her, six cabinet ministers—Parvesh Verma, Manjinder Singh Sirsa, Ravindra Kumar Indraj, Pankaj Kumar Singh, Kapil Mishra, and Ashish Sood—also took the oath of office.

The grand event witnessed the presence of Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Rajasthan CM Bhajan Lal Sharma, Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Bihar Deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha, Rajasthan Deputy CM Prem Chand Bairwa, Goa CM Pramod Sawant, and Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu, among others.

Rekha Gupta has a long political journey, starting with the RSS-affiliated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). A graduate of Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College, she was the President of the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) in 1996-97. She has also served as the general secretary of BJP Mahila Morcha in Delhi and as a member of its national executive committee.

As a councillor from North Pitampura in 2007, Gupta worked on developing local infrastructure, including libraries and parks. She also pursued an LLB and is the founder of the NGO AAS. Despite losing the 2023 Delhi mayoral election to AAP’s Shelly Oberoi, she continued to rise within the BJP ranks, culminating in her appointment as Delhi’s Chief Minister.
