In a passionate and fiery speech at his brother Dhiraj Vilasrao Deshmukh’s campaign rally in Latur Rural, actor Riteish Deshmukh took aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for what he described as the misuse of religion in politics. His remarks, made in the lead-up to the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, have since sparked discussions across the political spectrum.
Riteish, speaking at the rally in support of Congress candidate Dhiraj Deshmukh, highlighted the pressing issues facing the region, particularly the lack of job opportunities in Latur despite the city’s well-known educational institutions. Drawing comparisons with the previous Lok Sabha elections, he noted that the local youth, despite being well-educated, are struggling with unemployment, a situation he blamed on the current government’s failure to address these concerns.
“Latur is known for its educational pattern, but our youth remain unemployed,” Riteish said, urging voters to keep this critical issue in mind when they head to the polls on November 20. He emphasized that it is the responsibility of the government to ensure job creation for the youth and to improve the economic prospects of the region.
Riteish then took direct aim at the BJP for what he saw as their attempt to shift focus from real issues by using religion as a political tool. “They say that religion is in danger, that we need to save religion and protect Dharma,” he said. “But I ask you, are they really concerned about religion, or are they simply protecting their own political interests?”
Drawing on Hindu teachings, Riteish quoted Lord Krishna, emphasizing the importance of “dharma” and “karma.” He said, “Work is Dharma. Performing duties diligently is Karma, and that itself is Dharma. Those who work honestly embody Dharma. But those who do not work, use religion as a shield.”
He also challenged political parties using religion as a tool for electioneering, urging voters not to fall for such divisive tactics. “Tell those who preach religion that we will take care of Dharma; instead, let’s talk about real issues that affect our lives. Ask them what price they’ll ensure for our crops, whether our mothers and sisters are truly safe,” he urged.
Riteish, who has been a strong supporter of his brother Dhiraj, expressed full confidence in the ability of the Deshmukh brothers to address the region’s issues. He praised Dhiraj and his brother Amit Deshmukh for their commitment to the community, noting their dedication to working for the betterment of the people in the region.
As the Latur Rural constituency prepares for a crucial battle, Riteish’s comments add fuel to the ongoing political drama. Dhiraj Deshmukh of Congress is facing strong competition from BJP’s Ramesh Karad and MNS leader Santosh Ganpatrao Nagargoje. With the election scheduled for November 20, all eyes will be on the region as the final votes are cast, with results set to be announced on November 23.
The 288-member Maharashtra Assembly election is poised to be an intense contest, with various parties vying for control and the attention of voters across the state. The Deshmukh family’s influence in the region remains a key point of focus as the campaign heats up.
