Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut launched a fierce attack on the central government on Monday, accusing it of working against the core principles of the Constitution of India. In a media interaction, Raut claimed that critical institutions meant to uphold the Constitution, such as the judiciary, Parliament, the Election Commission of India (ECI), and Raj Bhavan, were under pressure from the ruling government, thereby weakening the nation’s democratic framework.
“The present government is working against the Constitution of India,” Raut said. He further criticized the role played by vital constitutional bodies and emphasized that their actions appeared to be influenced by the government, rather than serving as impartial guardians of the Constitution.
Raut pointed out that if the government had secured a majority of over 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, discussions would likely shift towards the need to alter the Constitution. He warned that with key institutions under the sway of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the integrity of the Constitution is at risk.
As part of his ongoing critique, Raut also targeted Prime Minister Modi for his stance on corruption. In a separate comment on December 15, he questioned Modi’s sincerity, particularly regarding his alleged close ties with business tycoon Gautam Adani. “If Modi truly has zero tolerance for corruption, he should address the issue of Adani. The Prime Minister tolerates Adani and still claims to fight corruption,” Raut remarked.
The remarks were made during the winter session of Parliament, which began on November 25 and is set to conclude on December 20. Despite disruptions, Raut’s statements reflect growing tension and debate over the government’s handling of key issues related to the Constitution and corruption.
