Sanjay Roy, the man accused of the brutal rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has proclaimed his innocence, stating he is being wrongfully implicated in the case. Roy was arrested on August 10, following the discovery of CCTV footage linking him to the crime scene. Additionally, a Bluetooth headset belonging to Roy was found inside the seminar hall where the horrifying incident occurred.

Despite the evidence, Roy, through his lawyer Kavita Sarkar, maintains that he was not involved in the crime. According to reports from The Times of India, during a polygraph test, Roy asserted his innocence, even when questioned about his actions after the alleged murder. He reportedly told CBI investigators that the question was irrelevant as he did not commit the crime.

Roy further claimed that when he entered the seminar hall on August 9, the victim was already unconscious and covered in blood. Panicked by the sight, he fled the scene. He also stated that he did not know the victim personally and believes he is being framed.

When questioned about why he did not immediately inform the authorities if he was innocent, Roy responded that he was scared and believed no one would trust his version of events.

Kavita Sarkar, Roy’s lawyer, has suggested the possibility of another individual being responsible for the crime, citing potential security lapses at the hospital that night. “If he had access to the seminar hall so easily, it shows that there was a security lapse on that night and someone else could have taken advantage of that,” Sarkar told The Times of India.

The victim, a trainee doctor, was reportedly asleep in the seminar hall during a grueling 36-hour shift when the attack occurred. The autopsy revealed sexual assault and multiple injuries, sparking widespread outrage and a demand for justice.

While Roy continues to claim his innocence, the investigation remains ongoing, and the veracity of his statements is still under scrutiny.
