The Supreme Court has declined to interfere with the demolition notices issued to property owners in Delhi's Batla House area in Jamia Nagar, directing the petitioners to seek remedy through the appropriate authorities. The matter has been scheduled for a regular hearing in July after the court's summer break.
A total of 40 residents had approached the apex court seeking a stay on the demolition orders, which have caused significant concern in the area. These properties, many of which have been standing for decades, are now under threat of being razed due to alleged unauthorised construction.
Speaking on the development, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan said, “We have got relief from the Supreme Court that a regular bench will hear this case in July, after the court reopens. The families who were going to be affected have been asked to file applications under the PM-UDAY.”
Khan further criticised the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), stating, “This settlement exists for the last 40 years and is now unauthorised regularised. The colony is already protected. The DDA has wrongfully used the pick and choose way and has misreported.”
