Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar has condemned recent inflammatory remarks made by a Maharaja wearing a saffron cap, calling them inappropriate and harmful to communal harmony. Pawar emphasized the importance of maintaining social unity, urging political leaders to refrain from making statements that could disrupt the delicate fabric of India’s pluralistic society.
“It is inappropriate for a Maharaja who wears a saffron cap to make toxic statements about other communities,” Pawar remarked, indirectly referencing the controversial comments without naming the individual. His statement appeared to be a call for tolerance and restraint, particularly among public figures who hold influence over large sections of the population.
In his appeal to political leaders, Pawar further stressed that “no one should make a statement that will shock the social unity.” This message was viewed as a caution against rhetoric that could fuel communal discord in an already sensitive socio-political climate.
Following Pawar’s comments, BJP leader and MLA Nitesh Rane wasted no time in responding. In a pointed reaction, Rane suggested that Sharad Pawar should “side with Hindus” on some occasions. Rane took the opportunity to reference an earlier incident in which a Hindu idol was desecrated, stating, “The Hindus would have felt better if Sharad Pawar had expressed.
