In a dramatic and emotionally charged moment, Govind Raghuvanshi — brother-in-law of slain Raja Raghuvanshi — visited Raja’s residence and spoke to the media, breaking his silence on the murder case that has stunned the nation. His arrival left the family and local community in shock, particularly as he publicly addressed the role of his own sister, Sonam, who has been arrested for allegedly masterminding Raja’s murder.

Facing reporters outside the house, Govind expressed his deep anguish and firmly demanded the harshest punishment for the accused. “Whoever killed Raja must be hanged,” he said, standing before a grieving household. In a poignant display of remorse, he touched the feet of Raja’s mother as a symbolic apology, signaling his solidarity with the victim’s family.

Responding to swirling allegations about Sonam’s involvement, Govind maintained his innocence and ignorance regarding the conspiracy. “I had no clue about any plot. I met her in Ghaziabad for only two minutes and she never admitted to any crime,” he clarified. He insisted that Sonam has not confessed to anything, and added, “I was shocked and devastated when I learned of her arrest.”

Govind also sought to dismiss speculations of a romantic link between Sonam and Raj Kushwah, one of the accused. “There was no affair. Raj Kushwah was just an employee in our household. In fact, Sonam used to tie him a rakhi every year — he was like a brother to her,” Govind said, underscoring the betrayal at the heart of this murder plot.

Meanwhile, Raja’s brother, Vipin Raghuvanshi, publicly stated that Govind had no knowledge of the conspiracy, a claim that further distances him from the accused.

The murder investigation, code-named ‘Operation Honeymoon’ by the Meghalaya Police, led to the arrest of Sonam, Raj Kushwah, and three contract killers. The probe unveiled a premeditated plot allegedly orchestrated by Sonam, sending shockwaves through the community.
