Veteran Congress leader Sonia Gandhi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on the BJP, claiming that Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy is under threat from those in power in New Delhi and the ideologies they uphold.
In a message read out at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Karnataka’s Belagavi, Gandhi underscored the importance of protecting Gandhi’s ideals. “Mahatma Gandhi’s legacy remains a transformational milestone in our country’s history. Today, we recommit ourselves to preserve, protect, and promote his legacy,” she said, as quoted by news agency.
Gandhi accused the ruling party and its affiliated ideologies of creating a “toxic atmosphere” that opposes Gandhian principles. “These organisations never fought for our freedom. They bitterly opposed Mahatma Gandhi and glorified his killers. This toxic ideology led to his assassination,” she alleged.
She further claimed that Gandhian institutions across the nation are facing systematic assault, stating that it is appropriate for the meeting to be called the ‘Nava Satyagraha Baithak.’
Gandhi called on Congress members to renew their commitment to resist these forces with unwavering determination. “It is now our sacred duty to confront these threats with all the might at our command and uncompromising resolve,” she said.
