Sonia Gandhi Warns Congress Leaders Against Complacency Despite Favorable ‘Mahul’ Ahead Of State Elections

The upcoming elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Jammu and Kashmir are seen as crucial tests for the Congress

With Assembly elections approaching in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Jammu and Kashmir later this year, former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi has called on party leaders to avoid becoming “complacent” and “over-confident,” despite a favorable ‘mahaul’ (situation).

During a Congress Parliamentary Party meeting held today, Sonia Gandhi emphasized the importance of maintaining the momentum and goodwill generated during the Lok Sabha elections. She urged the party to work “unitedly with a sense of purpose” to build on the recent successes.

“In a few months, elections will be held in four states. We must sustain the momentum and goodwill that has been generated for us in the Lok Sabha elections. We must not become complacent and over-confident. The ‘mahaul’ does favour us, but we have to work unitedly with a sense of purpose. I dare say that if we perform well, reflecting the trend that we witnessed in the Lok Sabha elections, national politics will undergo a transformation,” Sonia Gandhi asserted.

She also addressed the first-time Members of Parliament (MPs), stressing the need for thorough preparation and active participation. “Many of you are first-time MPs. We had an orientation programme yesterday. There will be more such occasions. All I wish to reiterate is the need for each and every one of us to be fully prepared. We must be present in Parliament regularly, remain vigilant at all times and take our committee assignments seriously,” she stated.

In addition, Sonia Gandhi highlighted the need for “more extensive research support and backup” for the Congress Parliamentary Party. “We do have a system in place, but with our increased numbers, this system must get strengthened soon,” she added.

The upcoming elections in Maharashtra, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Jammu and Kashmir are seen as crucial tests for the Congress as it seeks to capitalize on its recent electoral gains and strengthen its position in key states.
