The state government has ordered the shutdown of 66 nursing colleges on Tuesday, following a Madhya Pradesh High Court order regarding ‘irregularities’ in their affiliations. This decision comes three months after the court’s ruling.
Officials have provided a list of these 66 ‘unsuitable’ colleges, located in 31 districts, to district collectors and divisional commissioners to ensure the enforcement of the closure.
On February 22, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), investigating the Madhya Pradesh Nursing College Scam, submitted a list of 308 colleges to the High Court. These colleges were divided into three categories: suitable, deficient, and unsuitable. The 66 colleges now ordered to close were categorized as unsuitable.
Out of the total, 169 colleges were deemed ‘suitable and suitable with minor deficiencies’. This includes 132 colleges classified as suitable and 37 as suitable with minor deficiencies. Another 73 colleges were categorized as having deficiencies.
Recently, the MP Nursing Council released a list of 132 suitable colleges where students can continue to take admissions. Among the 66 ‘unsuitable’ colleges ordered to close, six are located in the state capital, Bhopal, followed by Indore.
