Days after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee ruled out an alliance with Congress, TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on Thursday hinted at a possible reconciliation, saying the party remains open to seat-sharing discussions for the 2026 West Bengal Assembly elections.
Speaking at the Sebaashray camp in Satgachia, the Diamond Harbour MP clarified that while TMC is part of the INDIA alliance, it will contest independently if Congress does not agree to a better seat-sharing arrangement. “We fought alone and did not lose here,” he asserted.
Commenting on AAP’s defeat in Delhi, he accused the BJP of manipulating narratives against the Kejriwal government, saying, “BJP is a master at distracting people… AAP failed to counter the claim that they were ineffective due to Centre’s obstruction.”
This unexpected statement comes after Mamata Banerjee reportedly declared on Monday that TMC will contest alone, dismissing Congress as irrelevant in Bengal. “We will form the government again in 2026 with a two-thirds majority,” she had affirmed.
With TMC’s stance seemingly shifting, all eyes are now on Congress’s response and the evolving political equations in West Bengal.
