In a poignant plea to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Thackeray MLC Sunil Shinde has called for immediate financial assistance to the grieving family of Amit Jagtap, who tragically lost his life due to a falling tree in Worli’s BDD Chal area.
Amit Jagtap, a 45-year-old sole breadwinner, met with a fatal accident on July 1st when a gulmohar tree collapsed near Gandhi Maidan Road, Worli, adjacent to Beedi Chal No. 89. Despite assurances from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) regarding the pre-monsoon trimming of trees, this incident has left the Jagtap family shattered, grappling with an uncertain future.
“The loss of Amit Jagtap has not only devastated his family but has also exposed the failure of BMC’s claims about ensuring public safety,” MLA Sunil Shinde emphasized in his letter to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
The tragic incident has not only stirred emotional distress but has also heightened political tensions in the region. The Shinde group and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) have intensified their efforts in Worli, possibly gearing up to challenge Aditya Thackeray in the upcoming assembly elections. This development underscores the fragile intersection of personal tragedy and political ambition in Mumbai’s dynamic electoral landscape.

The Thackeray-led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has recently solidified its electoral dominance in Mumbai, winning crucial seats in both the Lok Sabha and Legislative Council elections. However, the rising assertiveness of the Shinde group, particularly in Worli constituency, signals a potential showdown in the forthcoming assembly polls.
As the political temperature rises in Worli, observers speculate on possible strategies from the Mahayuti alliance to challenge the Thackeray faction’s stronghold in the region. Aditya Thackeray, who narrowly clinched victory in the Lok Sabha elections, now faces mounting pressure amidst criticism from rivals who portray the incident as a reflection of governance failure under his leadership.
