Udit Raj Slams Shashi Tharoor Over Remarks on Pahalgam Terror Attack, Questions His Political Allegiance

Congress leader Udit Raj has fired back at Shashi Tharoor's controversial comments regarding the aftermath of the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, questioning Tharoor's political allegiance and suggesting a shift in his stance towards the BJP.

Speaking to ANI on Sunday, Raj raised concerns about Tharoor’s remarks, which he perceived as sympathetic to the BJP. "I want to ask Shashi Tharoor, is he in the Congress party or the BJP? Is he trying to become a super-BJP man? Shashi Tharoor should ask the BJP when the government is taking the PoK? Has Shashi Tharoor become the advocate of the BJP?" Raj questioned, reflecting his discontent over Tharoor’s remarks.

Tharoor had previously commented on the Pahalgam terror attack, which left several casualties, and suggested that it might have been a result of an intelligence failure. He drew a comparison between the attack and the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led assault on Israel, emphasizing that even countries with highly advanced intelligence networks like Israel are sometimes taken by surprise.

"Obviously, there was no foolproof intelligence. There was some failure... But we have got the example of Israel, the world's best intelligence services according to everybody, which were taken by surprise on October 7, just two years ago. It seems to me, just as Israel is waiting till the end of the war before they demand accountability, similarly, I think we too should see the present crisis through and then demand accountability from the government. No country can ever have a foolproof 100 per cent intelligence," Tharoor said.

However, Udit Raj was quick to challenge Tharoor’s perspective on the matter, particularly in relation to national security and terrorism. Raj questioned Tharoor’s knowledge on global terrorism, demanding clarification on his stance. “I want to ask him which terrorist incident took place after 9/11 in America? Has the BJP appointed him as its spokesperson?" Raj remarked, suggesting that Tharoor’s recent comments might align more closely with BJP's narrative than with Congress' traditional approach.
