Union Minister for Railways, Ashwini Vaishnaw, unveiled a series of ambitious initiatives aimed at enhancing railway services, safety, and infrastructure development across India. Addressing a press conference today, Vaishnaw highlighted significant strides made by the Indian Railways to meet increasing demand and improve passenger amenities.
“In response to the heightened summer demand, the Railways has successfully operated over 10,000 special trains,” Vaishnaw announced, emphasizing efforts to boost service efficiency and passenger satisfaction. He underscored ongoing efforts to ramp up manufacturing, with 2,500 general train coaches already under production and plans approved for an additional 10,000 coaches.
Vaishnaw also revealed progress in the rollout of ‘Kawach’, a comprehensive safety initiative aimed at enhancing railway security. “The rollout of ‘Kawach’ is proceeding swiftly to bolster our commitment to passenger safety,” he affirmed.
Highlighting infrastructure expansion, Vaishnaw disclosed significant additions to railway tracks across the country. “Last year, we added 5,300 kilometers of new tracks, and this year, more than 800 kilometers have already been added,” he stated, underscoring the Railways’ dedication to modernizing and expanding its network.
The Minister also announced the commencement of manufacturing for 50 Amrit Bharat trains, designed to offer enhanced comfort and amenities for passengers. “We have begun manufacturing 50 Amrit Bharat trains and initiated the process for an additional 150 trains,” Vaishnaw revealed, outlining the Railways’ commitment to upgrading rolling stock.
