Bangkok witnessed a grand welcome for Prime Minister Narendra Modi as he arrived on Thursday to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit and strengthen India's diplomatic ties with Thailand and Sri Lanka.

Excited members of the Indian diaspora gathered in Bangkok, chanting 'Vande Mataram' and 'Jai Hind' to celebrate PM Modi's arrival. Speaking to ANI, Ravi Kumar, President of the Telugu Association, said, "We are so excited to see PM Modi here. We want more flights between Thailand and India. We look forward to more changes, as he is bringing in India now."

PM Modi's visit comes at the invitation of Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra. He is set to meet the Thai leadership, including King Maha Vajiralongkorn, to discuss bilateral relations. He will then proceed to Sri Lanka for a state visit.

Vaishali Tushar Urumkar, President of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad Association, Thailand, shared her enthusiasm: "We are excited that PM Modi is coming here. Everyone was talking about him on our way to the hotel. We are eager to meet him."

In a post on X, PM Modi highlighted the significance of his visit, stating, "Over the next three days, I will be visiting Thailand and Sri Lanka to take part in various programmes aimed at boosting India's cooperation with these nations and the BIMSTEC countries."

The 6th BIMSTEC Summit, themed "BIMSTEC - Prosperous, Resilient, and Open," marks the first in-person meeting of BIMSTEC leaders since 2018. Leaders from member nations will focus on strengthening economic and strategic ties in the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC).
