Narendra Modi was sworn in as the Prime Minister of India for the third consecutive time following the BJP-led NDA’s victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The oath of office was administered by President Draupadi Murmu at a grand ceremony in the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
With this achievement, Narendra Modi joins the ranks of Jawaharlal Nehru as the only Prime Ministers in Indian history to have taken the oath for three consecutive terms. Modi himself secured a decisive victory in the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat, marking his third consecutive win in this constituency.
The BJP, under Modi’s leadership, secured 240 seats in the election, falling 32 seats short of the majority mark of 272. However, the broader National Democratic Alliance (NDA) coalition won a total of 293 seats, comfortably surpassing the majority threshold. In contrast, the opposition INDIA bloc garnered 233 seats, with the Congress party winning 99 of those seats.
