In a video that has taken social media by storm, a 19-year-old youth, identified as Lovepreet Singh, was seen striding proudly with his head held high, smiling and waving to the camera as he was escorted by a police officer in a court premises in Punjab. This surprising demeanor while in police custody left many social media users perplexed and curious about the backstory.
As details emerged, the mixed feelings of bravery and horror became apparent. Lovepreet Singh was arrested for killing Omkar Singh, a man who had raped his sister in 2015. Omkar Singh had served a 10-year sentence for the crime but was released during the Covid lockdown, providing Lovepreet an opportunity to exact revenge.
On August 28, Lovepreet Singh, along with his accomplice Akashdeep, attacked Omkar Singh with a sharp weapon in Punjab’s Kapurthala. While Akashdeep was quickly apprehended, Lovepreet remained at large until his recent arrest. The police discovered Omkar Singh’s blood-soaked body near Vishanpur Jatta village.
The investigation revealed that Omkar Singh had been convicted of raping a minor girl in 2015 and was sentenced to 10 years in prison. During his incarceration, the victim and her father both passed away, leaving Lovepreet with a deep sense of loss and a desire for retribution.
Following the murder, the police registered an FIR based on the statement of Omkar Singh’s son, Sarwan Singh, and arrested Akashdeep. Lovepreet Singh was later apprehended and produced in court, where the viral video was recorded. He has been remanded in one-day police custody for further interrogation.
