The Congress party on Friday released a video featuring Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi outlining his vision to strengthen tribal representation and support their fight against social injustice, particularly in the wake of challenges posed by digitalisation and land dispossession.
In the nearly six-minute video, Gandhi expressed the party’s determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with tribal communities, vowing to nurture leaders from within their ranks.
“My interest is to nurture tribal leaders in the party. We want the dynamic leaders who are serious about serving the community to step forward and hold posts of district heads, along with those from communities like Dalits, OBCs, and others,” Gandhi said.
He highlighted the Congress experiment in Gujarat, where 41 district presidents have been appointed from these communities to ensure their voices grow stronger over time.
“Across the country, we are going to empower district presidents to function as nodal officers and run the party, uphold the ideology of the Congress, and add new members,” he added, pointing out that financial assistance would also be provided to help district heads carry out their responsibilities effectively.
Gandhi further underlined the need to decentralise decision-making within the party.
“We want decisions to be taken in districts like Ahmedabad and Banaskantha, not in Delhi. It will take time, but we want 10–15 tribal leaders to be groomed in each district,” he said, stressing the importance of leaders who can directly relate to local issues and bring meaningful solutions.
