After enduring a challenging commute on Monday, Mumbaikars remained cautious about the weather and rains on Tuesday, July 9. Although the early morning downpour eased, predictions of heavy rains later in the day kept office-goers vigilant for weather updates.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted cloudy skies throughout the day, with spells of medium to heavy rain likely. The IMD also predicted that rains would intensify, with heavy to very heavy showers expected over the next 48 hours. “Mumbaikars should prepare for the worst and stay informed about weather updates,” an IMD official advised.
In their social media posts on X, both the central and western railway authorities confirmed that trains are running normally on all lines. The timely communication provided some relief to daily commuters who experienced significant delays on Monday. “We are closely monitoring the situation and will update in case of any disruptions,” Western Railway stated in their post.
A critical aspect to watch during the rains is the high tide timings, as they affect the drainage rate of water from the city and suburbs. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), a high tide of 4.31 meters is expected at 2:33 PM today, followed by a low tide of 1.63 meters at 8:36 PM. High tide periods are particularly concerning as they slow down the drainage process, potentially leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas. “Residents should be cautious and avoid traveling during high tide if possible,” a BMC official recommended.
While early reports suggest a slightly better situation compared to yesterday, it is advisable to stay informed. BEST, Mumbai’s public bus service, also confirmed that their services were operating smoothly. However, they noted route adjustments in Sangam Nagar due to ongoing issues. “Our services are running normally, but we have made some route changes to ensure safety,” BEST posted on X.
Even, central and western railway have declared that trains are running normally on all lines
As Mumbaikars navigate another potentially stormy day, staying updated with reliable sources will be key to managing their commutes and safety. With the IMD’s predictions of heavy rains and the BMC’s high tide warnings, the city remains on high alert. “We urge everyone to stay safe and avoid unnecessary travel during peak rain hours,” reiterated a spokesperson from the IMD.
