Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition Atishi launched a scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing them of failing to deliver on promises made to Delhi’s women, including the ₹2,500 financial aid and free LPG cylinders during Holi.
Atishi, speaking to ANI, called the BJP’s promises a “jumla” and highlighted protests by women across Delhi carrying empty gas cylinders to demonstrate against the alleged betrayal. “Only two days are left for Holi, and women are still waiting for the free cylinders BJP had promised. These were not just election slogans; they were commitments to the people,” she said.

BJP’s Unfulfilled Promises
As part of its election manifesto, the BJP had promised:
- ₹2,500 monthly financial assistance for women under the Mahila Samriddhi Yojana.
- LPG cylinders at ₹500 for low-income households.
- One free LPG cylinder for women on Holi and Diwali.
However, with Holi around the corner and no distribution in sight, AAP leaders have accused the BJP of misleading the public.
BJP Defends, AAP Hits Back
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, speaking at an International Women’s Day event on March 8, defended the BJP’s stance. “We will fulfill all promises. Women’s welfare and security remain our top priority,” she asserted, citing the 33% reservation for women as a key achievement of the Modi government.
Meanwhile, AAP MLA Gopal Rai accused the BJP of indulging in a “blame game” instead of focusing on governance. He alleged that the party was delaying the tabling of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report in the Assembly to distract from its unfulfilled commitments.
