Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Friday voiced strong criticism towards the seven Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Lok Sabha MPs from Delhi for their inaction amid the capital’s ongoing water crisis.
Addressing a press conference, Singh highlighted the discrepancy between the electoral support the BJP received and their response to the water shortage. “Where are your seven MPs? No charity is bigger than providing drinking water,” Singh emphasized. He urged these MPs to appeal to the Haryana government and the Centre, as well as to meet with Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) to address the issue impartially.
Singh accused the BJP government in Haryana of deliberately withholding Delhi’s rightful share of water, exacerbating the crisis. “The BJP government of Haryana is showing animosity towards us by blocking Delhi’s rightful share of water,” he alleged. “I want to say, you can have your enmity with us, but do not trouble the people of Delhi.”
Delhi has been grappling with a severe water shortage amidst an intense summer heatwave over the past two weeks. The crisis has been attributed to reduced water levels in the Yamuna River and technical issues at key water treatment plants. As a result, many areas in the capital have experienced little to no water supply, forcing residents to depend on water tankers and borewells.
The situation has prompted widespread distress among Delhi’s residents, with many calling for immediate and effective action from both local and central authorities to alleviate the water scarcity.
