The announcement of the India–United States trade agreement has triggered a wave of reactions from senior ministers and political leaders, with many calling it a major step forward for India’s economy and global standing. The deal, announced by US President Donald Trump after a phone conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will see Washington reduce reciprocal tariffs on Indian goods from 25 per cent to 18 per cent.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah described the development as a significant milestone in bilateral relations. He said the agreement would take the strategic partnership between the two countries to a higher level and create fresh momentum for trade and business. According to Shah, the reduced tariff structure will benefit people and businesses in both nations and strengthen long-term cooperation.

Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said the agreement would open new doors for Indian farmers, MSMEs, entrepreneurs and skilled professionals. He noted that the deal aligns with the Make in India vision and would help Indian industry access advanced technology from the United States. Goyal added that the partnership reflects cooperation between two democracies focused on fair trade and shared prosperity.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also welcomed the trade agreement, saying it would support economic growth in both countries. He stressed that the deal would further strengthen India’s manufacturing ecosystem and encourage global production with India as a key hub. Jaishankar made these remarks while on an official visit to the US for discussions related to critical mineral supply chains.

BJP president Nitin Nabin called the agreement a positive and forward-looking step, saying it would inject new energy into India’s economic journey. He added that stronger ties between India and the US would help accelerate India’s goal of becoming a developed nation, while also reinforcing initiatives like Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Make in India.
