The shocking discovery of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar’s body in a septic tank on contractor Suresh Chandrakar’s property in Bijapur, Chhattisgarh, has sent shockwaves across the country. Mukesh, aged 28, had been missing since January 1, and his remains were found on Friday after authorities tracked his mobile phone to Chattanpara Basti. The septic tank had been recently sealed with concrete, raising suspicions of a deliberate attempt to conceal the crime.

A Journalist Silenced

Mukesh, known for his fearless reporting on corruption and local issues, had recently exposed alleged irregularities in the construction of a road from Gangaloor to Nelasanar village. This report triggered an inquiry and reportedly led to threats from three individuals, including contractor Suresh Chandrakar. His brother, Yukesh Chandrakar, also a journalist, filed a missing person report on January 2, stating that Mukesh had received threats linked to his work.

Condolences and Promises of Justice

Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai expressed his grief, calling Mukesh’s murder a “heartbreaking loss for journalism and society.” He assured swift action, stating, “The culprit will not be spared under any circumstances. Instructions have been given to arrest the criminals and ensure the harshest punishment.”

The Bijapur superintendent of police, Jitendra Yadav, confirmed the opening of a homicide case and ongoing interrogation of multiple suspects. However, he refrained from revealing further details, citing the early stages of the investigation. The post-mortem report is awaited to determine the exact cause of death.
